Fallen Premier League giants Manchester United have been handed a big transfer boost in their pursuit of highly rated Ajax Amsterdam star Matthijs De Ligt following the news that rivals Barcelona are already looking at alternatives for the player.
Manchester United and Spanish giants Barcelona are the top two favourites in the race to sign De Ligt.
According to experienced journalist Gerard Romero of Spanish media outlet RAC1, Barcelona fear that they won’t be able to compete with Manchester United financially and they are looking at other defensive alternatives.
He also added that the defensive alternatives for Barcelona are still unknown.

Barcelona are said to be losing the battle for Matthijs De Ligt due to the huge demands from his agent Mino Raiola as well as the better offer from Premier League giants Manchester United and German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Manchester United are prepared to pay as much as possible for their top transfer target.
The Red Devils have offered De Ligt a whopping £350,000 on a weekly basis as well as a transfer fee of £70m.
Matthijs De Ligt has shown his quality as an Ajax Amsterdam since he broke into the first team at a tender age.
The Ajax Amsterdam skipper led the Dutch Eredivisie giants to a domestic double this season for the first time in 17 years.
