Fallen Premier League giants Manchester United finished a disappointing season on a terrible note after they were humbled at home by a Cardiff City side that were already relegated from the top flight of English football.

The relegation of the Welsh club was confirmed in the penultimate game of the season which they lost 3-2 at home to London club Crystal Palace.

Manchester United lost 2-0 at home to Cardiff City on the final day of the Premier League season to compound a humiliating season which ended with a five-game winless run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing was the hero for the visitors after he scored a brace either side of the halftime interval to give the Bluebirds the three points at stake.

The first of his goals came from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot though replays showed that it was soft.

He wrapped up the points for Cardiff City during the second half of the game.

Solskjaer made several changes for the game including the introduction of Mason Greenwood who’s now the youngest player to start for Manchester United in history of the Premier League.

Manchester United finished the season with just 66 points from 38 games to finish in sixth position while Cardiff City ended the season in third from bottom (18th spot) with 34 points.
