Manchester United are set to miss out on a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes who’s closing on a move to city rivals Manchester City this summer according to Sky Sports.
The Red Devils were one of several English clubs interested in Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes but they will all miss out on him after Sporting Lisbon agreed to sell him to Manchester City.
The Citizens are expected to pay around £50m-60m for the 24-year-old.
Premier League sides like Liverpool and Chelsea were also mentioned as potential suitors for him.
Bruno Fernandes has had a phenomenal season for Sporting Lisbon this season netting 31 goals for the Portuguese Super League giants.
In addition, Bruno Fernandes has provided 17 assists in all competitions.
Manchester City see Bruno Fernandes as the long-term replacement for the ageing Fernandinho.
Brazilian international Fernandinho has been a wonderful servant for the Premier League champions but he’s not getting younger at 34.
Fernandinho has struggled with injuries in recent weeks though his team has been able to stay in the hunt for a second successive Premier League title.
Apart from the Premier League title, Manchester City are also targeting the FA Cup title having already won the Carabao Cup this season after the penalty shootout win over Chelsea in their final clash in February.
