Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has shouldered the blame after his team saw hell at the hands of Everton during their Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

Matic and his Manchester United teammates were on the receiving end of a 4-0 drubbing by the Toffees.

In his reaction to the result, Matic told reporters via Goal that Manchester United lacked leaders and that was mainly responsible for the heavy beating received by the Red Devils.

The result blunted their quest for a top-four spot at the end of this season as Manchester United missed out on the chance to move two places ahead on the table with a win over Everton.

The Toffees scored two goals in each half to condemn Manchester United to a heavy defeat as well as a sixth loss in the last eight games.

The defeat at the hands of Everton is coming on the back of their Champions League exit at the hands of Spanish champions Barcelona.

The five-time European champions thrashed Barcelona 3-0 on Tuesday night to knock them out of the competition at the quarterfinal stage via a 4-0 aggregate defeat.

The Everton goals vs Manchester United were scored by Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne and substitute Theo Walcott.

Everton gave themselves the chance to seal Europa League qualification via a seventh place finish on the league table.
