Three-time European champions Manchester United have their work cut out if they want to qualify for Champions League football via the league route.

The Red Devils are five points adrift of Chelsea in third place having played a game less and also three points off Tottenham Hotspur in fourth place in the race for Champions League football.

They are in sixth place while North London club Arsenal are two points further ahead in fifth spot.

Only the third and fourth positions will guarantee Champions League football for next season and Manchester United are far from securing either of the two spots.

They can also seal Champions League football for next season by winning the competition this term.

That looks like a tall order at the moment after the Red Devils lost the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie to Spanish champions Barcelona.

Manchester United were beaten 1-0 at home by the Catalan giants on Wednesday night with their second leg meeting in Spain scheduled for next week Tuesday.

They have now lost four of their last five games in all competitions as a result of the defeat caused by a first half own goal from Luke Shaw.

They can return to winning ways against the Hammers at the odds of 1.39 according to Surebet247 while the possibility of a stalemate is at the odds of 5.05.

West Ham United have lost their last six games away from home in the league and an unlikely victory has 8.00 odds.
