A lot of pundits and former players have identified Liverpool stars Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane as candidates for the Ballon d’Or award as a result of their impressive performances for the Reds team so far this season.

The stable and solid defence of the Liverpool team has been attributed to the coming of Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton with the player proving to be what the Merseyside outfit have been missing over a long period of time with his commanding performance.

Also, the Senegal international Sadio Mane has been in red hot form for the Merseyside outfit with his goal-scoring ability. He was instrumental in the dramatic win for Liverpool against Bayern Munich to qualify to the quarter-finals of the Champions League while he has scored 11 goals in the last 11 games for the Reds team.

All of these feats have ensured that the duo is recommended for Ballon d’Or award but it has been rejected by a former Real Madrid star Luis Figo who claims that Spanish defender Sergio Ramos deserves to be handed the award.

According to him, Sergio Ramos has been impressive and his presence as a defender makes him seem like a goalkeeper because of the number of goals he has saved.
