Premier League giants Manchester United have been dealt a big transfer blow following the news that one of their previous targets will join German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich this summer.
The Bavarian giants announced the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez on Wednesday evening.
Lucas Hernandez had previously been linked with a move to Manchester United but it seems like that chapter is closed for the Red Devils in the immediate future after the new development from Bayern.
The Bavarian giants have signed the French international in a club-record deal worth €80m.
The Lucas Hernandez transfer beats the previous record held by compatriot Corentin Tolisso.
Bayern Munich paid €41m to sign Tolisso from French Ligue 1 giants Lyon.
Both Lucas Hernandez and Corentin Tolisso were part of the French team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia last summer.
Lucas Hernandez will stay with Atletico Madrid until the end of this season before joining Bayern Munich in July.
The 23-year-old can effectively play in any role across the defence.
Lucas Hernandez was efficient and effective as a left-back for the French team at last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
It was revealed that his total wage package is at €65m over a five-year period meaning that his annual salary is €13m.
