Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed the uncertainty surrounding his future at the North London club amidst the transfer rumours linking him with a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Alderweireld told Sky Sports that his focus is on Tottenham Hotspur at the moment but he does not know what the future holds for him.

The Belgian international centre back initially had few months left on his Tottenham Hotspur contract but the club has exercised the extra year clause to take him till 2020 at the club.

With the extra year activated, the 30-year-old now has a £25m release clause in his Spurs contract.

The aforementioned release clause can be activated by potential suitors when the transfer window reopens this summer.

Premier League giants Manchester United are long-term admirers of Toby Alderweireld dating back to the start of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur were able to rebuff the interest of Manchester United in Toby Alderweireld.

The Red Devils still retain an interest in his but there are other defensive targets on their shortlist.

Italy-based defenders like Napoli centre back Kalidou Koulibaly, Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar and Fiorentina player Nikola Milenkovic have all been touted as possible defensive reinforcements for Manchester United.

Toby Alderweireld has played 38 times for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
