Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has been named on the transfer shortlist of five-time European champions Barcelona according to reports coming out of the media in Spain.
Spanish media portal Sport claim that Gunners left-back Monreal is on a three-man transfer shortlist for Barcelona who want to strengthen their squad in the left side of the defence.
Barcelona have made the signing of a new striker and a new left-back top priority when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
The Catalans want to sign a backup to first choice left-back Jordi Alba who recently put pen to paper on a new five-year contract until 2024.
Barcelona Academy graduate Alba has become a key player for Blaugrana since he returned to the club from fellow Spanish La Liga side Valencia.
He’s the only senior left-back in the Barcelona squad after the exit of French international Lucas Digne last summer.
Barcelona want to sign a new backup option having failed to replace Lucas Digne when he left the club to join Everton at the start of this season.
The aforementioned publication revealed that Nacho Monreal is on the left-back shortlist for Barcelona alongside Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno and Atletico Madrid star Filipe Luis.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will let Monreal leave the club this summer.
