Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt has grown to become one of the most exciting young players in European football following his performances for both club and country, especially in the last one year.
His superb form has not gone unnoticed with major European clubs like Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona and Manchester United.
Spanish news portal Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona are very keen on a deal for Dutch international centre back De Ligt and that they will only make a move for him if the fitness concerns over French World Cup winner Samuel Umtiti continues.
Samuel Umtiti has had a season to forget as a result of a troublesome knee injury.
The ex-Lyon defender was part of the French team that conquered the whole world at last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
He recently returned to light training at Barcelona after three months out with a knee problem.
A Barcelona transfer for Matthijs De Ligt is solely dependent on the fitness of Samuel Umtiti.
This could open the door for other interested clubs like Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain (PSG), Manchester City and Juventus who have all been linked with young defender De Ligt who’s rated at around £75m.
