North London giants Arsenal have been handed a major transfer blow following the news that one of their transfer targets is close to signing a new deal at his club.
AS Roma teenager Nicolo Zaniolo is enjoying a breakthrough season with the Italian capital club and his performances for the Champions League campaigners have not gone unnoticed by the major clubs on the European football scene.
His form for AS Roma has attracted the likes of Arsenal and Italian Serie A giants Juventus.
The Italian midfielder has been impressive in his first season at AS Roma having joined the club last summer.
AS Roma paid just €4m for the 19-year-old as part of the transfer that took experienced Belgian international midfielder Radja Nainggolan to rivals Inter Milan at the start of the season.
Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that AS Roma are close to signing the young midfielder to a new deal at the club and that the contract extension will take place in the summer.
The new contract will take his wages to the €2m mark which could still rise to €2.5 depending on performances.
Zaniolo was on fire earlier this week as he netted a brace to lead AS Roma to a 2-1 win over FC Porto in their last 16 first leg clash in the Champions League.
