Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed how the club pulled out of a move for highly rated Barcelona winger Malcom.
Pochettino spoke about the pursuit of the Brazilian star ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
According to him, the decision to pull out of a deal for Malcom was down to the club and that he was not responsible for it.
Malcom was heavily linked with a loan move to the Premier League in the last days of the January transfer window with the North London duo of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur interested in him.
The 21-year-old was unable to leave Barcelona last month having been on the fringes of the team since his transfer at the start of the season.
Malcom joined Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona from French club Bordeaux last summer in a deal reported to be around £38m.
His transfer was controversial at best after Barcelona hijacked him under the noses of Italian Serie A club AS Roma.
The Italians had agreed on a deal to sign him before the player opted to join five-time European champions Barcelona once the Nou Camp giants met Roma’s valuation for him.
