Borussia Dortmund forward Shinji Kagawa is closing in on a loan move to French Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco before the end of the current January transfer window.

Sky Sports Germany claim that the Japanese international player will join the struggling French club on loan from German Bundesliga league leaders Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season.

Shinji Kagawa was on the payroll at Premier League giants Manchester United before going back to Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

The Japanese player scored six goals in 38 appearances for Manchester United in the Premier League during his two-year spell at Old Trafford between 2012 and 2014.

Kagawa had joined the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2012 before returning to the Signa Iduna Park two years later.

He has scored 20 German Bundesliga goals in 97 games upon his return to Borussia Dortmund.

Shinji Kagawa was not been able to play regularly for Borussia Dortmund under new manager Lucien Favre this season with the club leading the German Bundesliga table at the moment.

He would be a fantastic addition to the AS Monaco team with the French club battling relegation at the moment.

AS Monaco are just one point off the bottom of the table with 15 points only.
