Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has questioned the quality of goalkeeper Bernd Leno following his inconsistent displays for the Gunners this season.
Arsenal signed the German international shot stopper at the start of the season in a deal worth £22m.
Bernd Leno joined the Gunners from German Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen.
Arsenal legend Keown spoke about Leno while he was doing his punditry job on BBC 5Live.
The former England international center back was of the opinion that Bernd Leno is not good enough before adding that the German shot stopper is not an upgrade on Petr Cech.
Ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech started this season as the Gunners’ first choice despite the arrival of Bernd Leno but a hamstring injury hindered from participating in the Premier League home clash with London rivals Watford. It also handed Leno the opportunity to stake a claim for a starting spot between the sticks.
Leno replaced Petr Cech in the final minutes of that league clash against the Hornets and he has not relinquished that number one spot since then.
Footballer turned pundit Keown is certain that Bernd Leno is not at the level of the best Premier League goalkeepers like Liverpool shot stopper Alisson Becker who has conceded just 13 goals in 23 league games.
