Three-time European champions Manchester United have received a big transfer boost following the news that Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have pulled out of the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen.
This is according to reports emanating from the Spanish capital.
Spanish newspaper AS claim that the Los Merengues have withdrawn from the race to sign Danish international playmaker Eriksen after they were priced out of a move for him.
Manchester United and Real Madrid were in the running to sign Christian Eriksen but the new development means that the Red Devils are clear favorites to sign him.
Eriksen has become a key player for both club and country in recent seasons.
He was recently part of the Denmark squad that reached the first knockout stage at the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
Denmark exited the tournament after they were beaten on penalties by eventual finalists Croatia in their last 16 clashes.
Christian Eriksen has less than 18 months left on his current deal with Tottenham Hotspur and that has led to doubts over his long-term future at the club.
The aforementioned publication revealed that Real Madrid had budgeted between €56m-€84m for his transfer but Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is holding out for at least €86m.
