Premier League giants Arsenal have contacted European champions Real Madrid over the transfer availability of midfielder James Rodriguez.
This is according to the publication from the popular English media outlet Independent.
It was revealed that the Gunners made contact with the Champions League holders through intermediaries and that Real Madrid want to use the Colombian international star as a makeweight in a potential deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen.
Real Madrid are keen to secure the signing of Christian Eriksen from Tottenham this summer and James Rodriguez could be an important factor in that transfer but it remains to be seen whether Spurs would be interested in the former AS Monaco and FC Porto player.
James Rodriguez is on a two-year loan deal at German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich having joined the Bavarian giants from Real Madrid at the start of last season.
The loan deal will expire at the end of this season though it has been suggested that James Rodriguez could leave Bayern six months earlier after his relationship with manager Niko Kovac suffered in recent weeks.
Arsenal could secure his signing on loan at least until the summer with the Gunners not open to a permanent transfer this month as confirmed by club manager Unai Emery.
