North London giants Arsenal are plotting the transfer of highly rated West Ham United defender Reece Oxford in this January transfer window.
According to hardtackle, the Gunners are keen to sign the young utility defender to improve their injury-hit defence.
Reece Oxford is a utility defender that can play either as a central midfielder, in central defence or in the fullback positions (either left-back or right-back).
Manchester United have been previously linked with a transfer for him and they will have to contend with Premier League rivals Arsenal and German Bundesliga giants Borussia Moenchengladbach in the race to sign him.
It was revealed that Arsenal are trying to lower the £3m transfer fee placed on the player by the Hammers.
The Gunners have a mini-crisis in defence and a transfer for Reece Oxford could be what the North London giants need to ease their defensive worries.
Greek international defender and last summer’s signing Sokratis Papasthathopoulos is the only fit centre back in the Arsenal first team at the moment.
The likes of Rob Holding, Shkrodan Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal are currently out with different injuries.
Young English defender Rob Holding won’t play again this season after suffering a serious knee injury last month.
