Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone wants defender Diego Godin to snub the interests of other clubs by signing a new contract at the club.
Uruguayan international centre back Diego Godin has been attracting the interests of clubs like Manchester United and Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan.
In his latest interview, Diego Simeone talked about the importance of the Uruguayan in his team and how he’s desperate for him to stay beyond this season.
His contract with the Spanish capital club expires at the end of this season.
Recent reports claim that the defender is unhappy with Atletico Madrid officials after he was not offered a new contract that will extend his stay in Madrid beyond this summer/season.
It was also revealed that the 32-year-old has already agreed a two-year contract with Inter Milan with a view to joining them on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.
Manchester United came close to signing him at the start of the season only for the player to turn down a move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils had activated the release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract last summer but the player didn’t fancy a move to the Premier League as he opted to stay in Spain.
