Manchester United will make a move to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld in this January transfer window.
This is according to British radio station TalkSport via thisisfutbol.
It will be difficult for the Red Devils to ignore their top defensive transfer target in the current transfer window.
Manchester United have been long-term admirers of the Belgian international centre back.
The former Southampton and Atletico Madrid player was recently part of the Belgium squad that impressed a great deal at last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
Toby Alderweireld and Belgium finished in the third spot via a 2-0 victory over England in their third/fourth place playoff meeting on the 14th of July.
The Belgian initially had six months left on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur before the North London giants activated the clause of an extra year in the contract thus taking him to the summer of 2020 at the club.
The clause is accompanied by a £25m transfer fee for interested clubs like Manchester United.
Toby Alderweireld has been strongly linked with a transfer to Manchester United for a long time dating back to the summer but Tottenham Hotspur were able to repel the interest of the former European champions.
