Transfer expert Duncan Castles has made it clear that English Premier League leaders Liverpool are only sitting top of the Premier League table because of one situation.
According to him, they would have been second or third position should they have missed out on the signature of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
He recalled that both Liverpool and City were in the race the Dutch central defender but the Citizens lost out on him and the Reds were willing to splash the sum of £75 million to secure his signature.
Duncan Castles argued that the biggest mistake made by the Pep Guardiola side was to have surrendered in the race to Liverpool because Virgil Van Dijk has been the difference between both sides.
Recall that last season, Man City won the Premier League title with Liverpool as runners-up. The situation seems the same this term as the contest for the title is believed to be between both sides
Duncan Castles stressed again that Virgil Van Dijk has not got his match in the Man City team as he has been superior so far this season.
However, Liverpool are six points clear at the top going into their huge Premier League clash of the Titans at the Etihad on Thursday.
