Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Juventus left-back Alex Sandro following the news that the player has signed a new contract to commit his long-term future to the Italians.

Alex Sandro, 27, has signed a new Juventus contract until the end of the 2022/23 season.

His contract extension was confirmed by the Italian Serie A champions on Thursday evening.

He has become a key player for Juventus since he joined the club from FC Porto in 2015.

Alex Sandro has scored nine goals and provided 18 assists in 134 games for Juventus in all competitions.

No defender has made more appearances or provided more assists since he came a Juventus player.

His form led to interests from English top flight clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Alex Sandro was one of the players that sacked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wanted at the club but Juventus managed to hold on to him.

The Brazilian international was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer only for him to stay in Italy.

England international left-back Luke Shaw benefitted from Alex Sandro’s failed transfer to Manchester United.

Luke Shaw became the undisputed no. 1 at left-back and was one of the Red Devils’ best players before he got injured.
