Three-time European champions Manchester United have been linked with a move for highly rated Borussia Moenchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi with ten days to go before the winter transfer window reopens.
Swiss international defender Elvedi has been attracting the interests of several European sides following his impressive outings for Borussia Moenchengladbach this season.
His form has propelled the German club to the second spot on the league table and six points adrift of league leaders Borussia Dortmund ahead of their meeting at the Signa Iduna Park this weekend.
Manchester United have had a disappointing start to the new season on the defensive front and the club is keen to address the situation by signing at least a centre back in the upcoming transfer window next month.
Elvedi, 22, is rated at around £22.5m and he represents a cheaper option for the Red Devils.
He has helped his German club keep six clean sheets out of his 15 league appearances this season.
This is in contrast to a Manchester United side that has kept just two clean sheets all season.
Nico Elvedi was part of the Switzerland squad that reached the first knockout stage at this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia before they were eliminated by fellow Europeans Sweden via a 1-0 loss in their last 16 clashes.
