Controversial Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has edged closer to a return to Italy after he was left out of the Manchester United starting XI against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday evening.

According to Italian news outlet Tuttosport via ESPN, Italian Serie A champions Juventus are ready to capitalise on the strained relationship between the France World Cup winner and Jose Mourinho.

Paul Pogba was an influential figure for the French national team as they won a second World Cup title at this year’s tournament in Russia in the summer.

The Manchester United Academy graduate was on target for France in the final to help Les Blues secure the trophy via a 4-2 victory over fellow Europeans.

Pogba was expected to replicate that France form in the colours of the Red Devils this season but the 25-year-old has failed to achieve this.

His Manchester United form has been affected and overshadowed by his frosty relationship with club manager Jose Mourinho.

He was stripped of his duties as the Manchester United vice-captain earlier in the season and has been dropped from the Red Devils’ starting XI for the last three league games against Arsenal, Fulham, and Liverpool.

Paul and Pogba was an unused substitute in the 3-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday evening.
