English Premier League giants Liverpool have handed a six-year deal to star defender Joe Gomez which means he will remain at the Anfield until 2024.

The new deal is perceived as a reward to the star player whose partnership with former Southampton star Virgil Van Dijk has made the Reds the best defensive side in the league owing to the number of goals they have conceded and the number of clean sheets.

The 21-year-old has been impressive this season for both the club and the country since his switch from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2015 for just £3.5 million.

Joe Gomez is now injured and will be away for a couple of weeks but that has not stopped the Reds to hand him a deserving and improved deal at the club.

The English man is also one of the best for the Gareth Southgate team and that is expected to happen for a long time because of his young age.

Liverpool are hopeful that the race for the Premier League title can come in their favour at last especially with a fully fit Joe Gomez for the Jurgen Klopp side.

The Reds now top the Premier League table with 42 points after 16 games.
