Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji has dismissed transfer rumours of a move to Premier League giants Manchester United just some weeks before the start of the winter transfer market.

The Swiss international centre-back played down those reports in a chat with German publication WAZ via caughtoffside.

Manuel Akanji revealed that he’s not interested in a move to Manchester United mainly due to the way the Red Devils play under manager Jose Mourinho.

The Swiss defender has become a key component of the Borussia Dortmund defensive unit since he joined the club from FC Basel of Switzerland in the penultimate transfer window in January.

Akanji has helped Borussia Dortmund to the top of the table in the German Bundesliga.

His Borussia Dortmund has enjoyed a hugely successful 2018/19 season until now but the same cannot be said of Premier League fallen giants Manchester United.

The Red Devils have had a disappointing season so far.

Manchester United are currently languishing in mid-table on the Premier League log.

They are in the eighth spot with 23 points from 15 league games.

In addition, the Red Devils have been able to prevent the opposition from scoring just twice.

Manchester United have also conceded a whopping 25 goals in 15 games in the Premier League.

No Roberto Firmino For Arsenal

Roberto Firmino

Emerging reports reveal that North London side Arsenal will not be able to secure the signature of Brazilian and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino either now or in the future.

Although, the Gunners are yet to make any bid for the Liverpool star but it has been revealed that when the Reds secured the service of Roberto Firmino from German Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, a clause “anti-Arsenal” was added to stop the Emirates Stadium side from bidding for him.

This step was taken by the Merseyside club after the North London side came close to luring former striker Luis Suarez some years back before he eventually had a move to the Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona.

Suggestions are that the Gunners have been making lots of attempts in the past and behind the scene to steal a number of Liverpool players which is already being stopped with the clause.

Roberto Firmino had a perfect last season, merging his force with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to secure a second finish in the Premier League for the Reds as well as reaching the Champions League finals.

However, the Brazilian international has made 23 appearances so far this season and has been able to deliver six goals or his side across all competitions.

Mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has explained the reason behind the decision to sell Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah to Italian Serie A giants AS Roma while he was the Chelsea boss.

According to the Portuguese tactician, Egyptian international star Salah was not mentally ready for the Premier League while he was a Chelsea player.

Jose Mourinho spoke about Salah during his pre-match thoughts ahead of the Red Devils clash with Liverpool billed for Sunday evening.

Liverpool started the weekend at the top of the table and a win against rivals Liverpool at home will take them back to the Premier League summit.

English champions Manchester City are at the top of the table following their 3-1 win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Jose Mourinho signed Mohamed Salah from Swiss side FC Basel for £11m in 2014 but the Egyptian didn’t make the grade at Stamford Bridge.

He made just 13 Premier League outings for the Blues before he was sold to Italian giants AS Roma in 2016.

Salah became an instant hit at Liverpool following his transfer from Roma last summer.

The 26-year-old scored a whopping 44 goals for the Reds in all competitions in his debut campaign as he helped Liverpool to the Champions League final.

Mourinho would be plotting how to stop Salah ahead of his side’s away league meeting with Liverpool.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has hailed Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira as the best signing of the summer in the Premier League.

The former Reds assistant manager and interim manager praised the impact of Lucas Torreira on English football in an interview monitored by Gunnersphere.

According to him, Torreira is an upgrade on previous options like Swiss international star Granit Xhaka and Egyptian player Mohamed ElNeny.

Lucas Torreira signed for the Gunners in the summer after his World Cup exertions with the Uruguayan national team.

The 22-year-old was part of the Uruguay squad that reached the quarterfinals of this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia before they were eliminated by eventual champions France via a 2-0 defeat in their last eight clash.

Lucas Torreira teamed up with his Arsenal teammates at the start of August and he has not looked back since then.

Arsenal agreed to a £26m transfer fee with Italian Serie A side Sampdoria for Torreira.

It was also decided that the money would be paid in three instalments.

Torreira has been very impressive for Arsenal since he signed for the club in the summer.

He recently scored his first goal for the Gunners in the 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the league before netting the winner in the last league game against Huddersfield Town.

He has now scored two goals in his last three appearances in the Premier League.
