Napoli Reject Stunning Bid From Man United For Another Defender
Manchester United have been dealt a big blow following the news that Napoli have rejected a world record bid from the Premier League giants for one of their defenders.
According to the report from trusted Italian news platform Corriere Dello Sport, Napoli turned down a £91.4m bid for Kalidou Koulibaly from Manchester United.
The transfer fee would be a world record for a defender.
Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk is the most expensive defender in the history of world football following his move from fellow Premier League side Southampton in the penultimate transfer window in January.
Southampton received the sum of £75m from the Reds for his transfer.
Manchester United might need to offer over £100m in their quest to prise Koulibaly from Napoli.
The Senegalese international centre-back is widely regarded as one of the top three centre-backs in world football.
He was recently part of the Senegal squad that failed to qualify from Group H of this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
Senegal failed to qualify based on disciplinary stats.
Manchester United would be hoping that they can secure his transfer to boost an ailing defence that has kept just two clean sheets this season.
