Benfica defender Alejandro Grimaldo is the latest left-back to be linked with a transfer to Arsenal ahead of the January transfer window scheduled to start in few weeks time.
The left-back position has been problematic for the Gunners in the new season mainly due to the injuries suffered by first choice options Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac.
Players like Junior (Real Betis and Spain), Jordi Alba (Barcelona and Spain), Nicolas Tagliafico (Ajax Amsterdam and Argentina) and Ben Chilwell (Leicester City and England) have all been mooted as possible signings to fill the void at left-back.
Arsenal have had to employ six players in the position in the new campaign.
Apart from the aforementioned duo of Monreal and Kolasinac, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Carl Jenkinson, Ainsley. Maitland-Niles and Granit Xhaka have all deputised at left-back.
Grimaldo, 22, represents a long-term solution to the problem with first choice Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal already approaching the twilight of his career.
He would be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin if the Gunners could swoop for him.
Grimaldo is a Barcelona Academy graduate just like Bellerin.
The Spaniard moved to Benfica in search of more first-team opportunities and he has been in impressive form for the Portuguese side since the move.
