Since Stephen Gerrard’s departure from Anfield in 2015, it won’t be out of place to say that the Reds have failed to replace the England legend.
Many strikers have come and gone but none have been able to step into the mighty boot of the former England midfielder.
Though Mohammed Salah is on the right path to achieving such feat with the Reds, it remains unknown if Real Madrid won’t capture him anytime soon.
However, there is one youngster whose style of play and goalscoring prowess has been likened to the former LA Galaxy player.
Who this young midfielder
Herbie Kane is a 19-year-old playmaker who is currently on loan at Doncaster Rovers. The youngster is a graduate of the Anfield academy but didn’t get a chance to feature for the club’s first-team squad.
As a result of too much competition for a place at the middle of the pitch, Jurgen Klopp accepted Doncaster Rovers’ loan bid for the youngster prior to the start of the season.
Could he be Gerrard’s long-term replacement?
It is certain Kane still has a very long way to go if he must be regarded as Gerrard’s replacement, but the youngster is showing great signs of becoming a great player in the future.
He has been impressive with the League One side since the start of this season and he’s being monitored by Klopp who has so much interest in his development.
Kane’s recent form is one of the reasons many believe he could be the perfect replacement for Stephen Gerrard. The 19-year-old has scored four goals in his last four matches.
Irrespective of his newly found goalscoring prowess, his overall performances in the last four games has further emphasized his growth in the game.
Just like Gerrard, Kane is a very strong and hardworking midfielder who is comfortable with the ball at his feet.
His quality eye for goal is nothing short of wonders and he can only get better with time.
So far, he’s played some important matches for Doncaster Rovers and he’s tipped to continue is fine display.
At the Keepmoat Stadium, the England youth international is getting regular game time and he is repaying the manager’s trust in him with constant impressive performances.
As it stands the Reds currently possess a deadly frontline and it will be very difficult for Kane to break into the team anytime soon, however, he will surely be a great player for the team in the future. All eyes must be on the youngster and his progress at the League one side.
