26-Year-Old Man United Defender Emerges As A Transfer Target

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has emerged as a transfer target for former Premier League champions Leicester City ahead of the upcoming transfer window in the New Year.

The 26-year-old has found first team football hard to come by in the new season and that has thrown his long-term future at the club into serious doubt especially with a year left on his present deal with the Red Devils.

He has a Manchester United contract that runs out at the end of this season though the Red Devils can activate the clause of an additional year that will take his contract till the end of the 2019/20 season.

Phil Jones signed for Manchester United in 2011 from English Championship side Blackburn Rovers in what was one of the last transfers made by legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson before he retired in 2013.

The England international centre-back has failed to match the expectations and that could partly be traced to his numerous injury problems at Old Trafford.

He was doing well in the last campaign until injury struck again but he recovered admirably to be a part of the England squad that finished fourth at this summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
