Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has reportedly been linked with a return back to Spanish La Liga giants Athletic Bilbao ahead of the January transfer window.

The Spanish international player has found it hard to nail down a starting spot in the Manchester United team this term.

He has less than a year left on his current contract with the Red Devils meaning that he can start to talk to foreign clubs about a potential free transfer move as from the 1st of January.

The 29-year-old has started just one Premier League game in the new season and that was the 3-0 loss at home to top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a Matchday 3 clash in the Premier League.

He recently played a crucial role in the Red Devils’ big victory over Juventus in their Champions League clash on Wednesday night.

Manchester United scored two late goals to overturn Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening goal for the hosts.

The former Premier League winners won 2-1 to boost their hopes of qualification for the knockout stage.

Ander Herrera has been linked with a return to his former club, Athletic Bilbao as reported by the Independent.

He rose through the ranks at Bilbao before making his debut for the club in 2011.

The Spaniard left the club for Manchester United in 2014 after three hugely successful years and 128 appearances under his belt.
