Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will surely be a happy man this night despite his team’s defeat to Manchester United in his penultimate match as Arsenal manager as he was treated as a hero by Manchester United and Arsenal fans, players and even José Mourinho and Alex Ferguson who are both known as the Frenchman’s greatest rivals.

Wenger’s 22 years at Emirates stadium is characterized by a rocky relationship with the Red Devils’ managers first with Alex Ferguson, later with José Mourinho who once described him as “specialist in failure”

After his decision to retire by the end of the season, Wenger changed his relationship with both managers as they praised him as the best thing to have happened to the Gunners in the club’s history.

Before today’s crunch tie between both clubs, Wenger was cheered by United fans as he walked into the pitch from the dressing room. He was also presented with a silver vase by Ferguson before having a pose with the Scot alongside José Mourinho.

On his part, while receiving the gift from the former United manager, Wenger thanked the fans, players for the praise he received. He further appreciates Mourinho and his predecessor Alex Ferguson for their gesture towards him.

During the match, Pogba gave United the lead after opening the scoreline in the 25th minute. Surprisingly, United fans celebrated the goal by echoing “We want Wenger to stay”

Former United striker Henrikh Mkhitaryan restored parity for the Gunners but that wasn’t enough to earn them a draw as United scored the match-winning goal via Marouane Fellaini, with the last kick of the encounter.
