Three-time European champions Manchester United have dropped out of the keenly contested race to sign Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt this summer.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the Dutch international centre back will choose between Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona and French Ligue 1 title holders Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
It was revealed that all the other interested clubs have dropped out of the race including Manchester United and that the quest to sign Matthijs De Ligt during the present transfer window is down to two clubs namely Barcelona and PSG.

Spanish champions Barcelona had initially agreed to a deal with the player’s agent Mino Raiola only for the Italian super agent to inflate the sign-on fee for his client after the magnificent displays on the part of Matthijs De Ligt during the Champions League.
De Ligt led Ajax Amsterdam to the Champions League semifinals before they were eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur on the away goals rule via what was virtually the last kick of the game.
Premier League giants Manchester United were thought to be among the favourites for the player after reports claimed they made a £75m bid for him in addition to weekly wages of around £350,000 per week though it must be pointed out that the Red Devils were not able to offer him Champions League football.
