Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan was on the scoresheet as his side suffered defeat in the opening match of their Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Mkhitaryan was on target in the second half as his Armenia side were beaten 2-1 by hosts Bosnia and Herzegovina in their Group J clash.
The home side took a 33rd minute lead through Rade Krunic before Deni Milosevic added a second goal for the Bosnians with ten minutes left on the clock.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan pulled one back for Armenia from the spot to setup a grandstand finish but the hosts held on to start their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign on a winning note.
In one of the other Group J games, Lichtenstein lost 2-0 at home to 2004 European champions Greece courtesy goals from Kostas Fortounis and Anastasios Donis either side of the halftime interval.
The same scoreline was recorded when Italy hosted Finland in their first Euro 2020 qualifier.
The Italians started on a good note with a 2-0 home win over Finland through goals from Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella and young Juventus striker Moise Kean.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Armenia would be hoping for a better outing than the one against Bosnia when they host Finland in their second game of the qualifiers on Tuesday evening.
