Manchester United have reportedly moved ahead of rivals Chelsea in the race to sign highly rated Cagliari Calcio midfielder Nicolo Barella.
According to the report from Team Talk, the Red Devils are the favorites to sign Barella after they contacted his Italian Serie A side about a possible transfer on Friday.
It was further stated that Manchester United made a bid of around £30m for the young Italian international midfielder and that they have been swiftly replied by Cagliari.
The Italian club are holding out for at least €40m for him with the belief that they can get as much as €50m for him.
Nicolo Barella has built a reputation as one of the best midfielders in the Italian Serie A following his impressive outings for Cagliari since he broke into the first team two seasons.
His impressive Cagliari form has seen the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea express an interest in signing him.
Apart from the aforementioned clubs, Liverpool, Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur, and Inter Milan are also keen on a transfer for him.
He’s a full Italian international after making his debut for the Azzurri in October 2018.
