Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has slammed José Mourinho for the part he played in Marcus Rashford’s loss of form.

The player broke into Limelight in 2016 after series of impressive showings and he was tipped to be the next Michael Owen.

He was lively and important to the team throughout the 2016-17 season, helping them to FA Cup and Europa League glory.

Despite his huge potential, José Mourinho wasn’t comfortable giving the player a leading role in the team’s attacking department during the previous season, though, he featured regularly at the left flank of the attack.

To further add to the player dip in form, Mourinho completed his big-money move for Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal during last winter transfer.

The Chilean international effectively pushed the youngster to the substitute bench as he was integrated into the starting lineup by Mourinho.

According to Ferdinand, Sanchez’s addition to the Red Devils outfits have a negative impact on the player’s confidence.

” the manager (Mourinho) has gone and bought Lukaku, he has gone and bought Sanchez. What message is that sending to this young player?” he asked rhetorically.

The former defender claimed that being a second-half substitute didn’t help the 20-year-old development rapidly.

Since the start of this season, Rashford has started just a League game but he was far from convincing throughout the game.

While speaking to BT Sports as a pundit, Ferdinand advised the England international to remain at Old Trafford and fight to regain his starting role in the team.
