Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has questioned the abilities of 30-year-old striker Wout Weghorst after the Red Devils suffered a 7-0 defeat to Liverpool. Weghorst was signed on loan from Burnley during the January transfer window and has made seven appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United but has yet to score a goal for the team.

During an interview with Premier League productions (as reported by the Evening Standard) following Manchester United’s devastating defeat to Liverpool on March 5th, Scholes asserted that Weghorst does not possess the necessary attributes of a first-rate striker is therefore inadequate for the Red Devils.

The defeat was a massive blow to Manchester United, who had been in excellent form before the Liverpool game. The Red Devils had just won the Carabao Cup, ending their six-year trophy drought, and were looking to continue their winning streak.

However, Liverpool proved too strong on the day, with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salah all scoring twice, while Roberto Firmino added another goal to the tally.

Despite the heavy loss, Manchester United still holds a strong position in the Premier League table. They remain in third place, four points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who are currently in fourth place and have a game in hand over their rivals.

The defeat to Liverpool has sparked speculation about the future of Weghorst at Manchester United. Fans and pundits are questioning whether he has what it takes to succeed at the club, particularly in light of his failure to score a goal in his first seven appearances.

While Weghorst will be hoping to prove his doubters wrong in the remaining games of the season, the pressure is on for him to deliver and help Manchester United secure a top-four finish.
