The emerging reports claim that Chelsea winger Kai Havertz could have been a Man United player, wearing the Reds Jersey and not the Blue but for the fact that the West London club played a fast one.

It is understood that the Red Devils already had Kai Havertz as a target and made efforts to land him but they had their focus on Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and lost him to Chelsea.

Meanwhile, the Old Trafford team failed to land the England international winger eventually as they were left frustrated in the negotiation for his signature. The German Bundesliga outfit requested £108 million for the signature of the Man City academy product but Man United could not pay.

According to a recent report by The Athletic, Man United was been monitoring the player when he was with German Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen and made their first contact with the German club in January.

The Red Devils did not go ahead with the bid for the player when they were told he would cost £90.8 million but the West London eventually got him in the 2020 summer window for an initial fee of £72 million and that could be rise by £18 million if add-ons and clauses are met.
