New Manchester United signing Facundo Pellestri has revealed the reason behind his decision to sign for the Red Devils on the final day of transfers.

Facundo Pellestri was an unlikely signing for the Red Devils on transfer deadline day.

Manchester United paid £10m to secure his transfer from Atletico Penarol FC of Uruguay where he had been playing under former Manchester United favourite Diego Forlan.

Hours before the deadline was dominated by the club signing the likes of Edinson Cavani, Amad Traore and Alex Telles as the signing of Facundo Pellestri was largely unexpected.

In his first interview as a Manchester United player, the 18-year-old winger revealed that he opted for Manchester United because it’s a club that gives young players the platform to showcase their talent.

The Uruguayan also said that he can’t wait to work with Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Facundo Pellestri was the fourth of the four Manchester United signings on transfer deadline day.

Edinson Cavani joined the Red Devils on a free transfer and he’ll earn around £200,000 weekly, while left-back Alex Telles is a £15.4m signing from FC Porto.

The final signing was Amad Traore who won’t join until January.

Manchester United will potentially pay Atalanta €42m (£37) for the transfer of Amad Traore.
