The Athletic has confirmed that West London giants Chelsea are about to wrap up a deal for a goalkeeper as they prepare for their season which kicks off at Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday night.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard and his players will start their Premier League campaign this term with a duel with the Seagulls.

According to report via The Athletic, Chelsea are keen to provide serious competition for first choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and are about to wrap up a deal for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

The 28-year-old has already agreed on personal terms with the Blues and a transfer fee of €20m, including €5m, has been agreed for the player.

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga had a shaky season last term and was dropped by manager Frank Lampard. His form has prompted the Blues to hit the transfer market for a new shot stopper to provide competition for the Spanish international.

The Blues have spent a lot of money this summer and that might not stop when the transfer for Edouard Mendy has been wrapped up. The club is said to be interested in re-signing Declan Rice from London rivals West Ham United.

Chelsea have already spent close to €300m on new players this summer.
