The Sporting Director of French Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, Juninho has confirmed that talks were held with the English Premier League outfit Arsenal and Matteo Guendouzi was mentioned.

The Gunners are reported to have expressed serious interest in Lyon star Houssem Aouar by holding talks with Lyon over a possible move for him and that has been confirmed by the club.

Lyon Sporting Director stated that he held talks with Arsenal, revealing that Houssem Aouar is well appreciated by the Gunners boss Mikel Arteta but the deal could not go on because they were not interested in the offer that will have Matteo Guendouzi join the club.

Admitting that the French youngster is a very good talent, Juninho made it clear that he has a very bad profile that will not fit into the club’s wish and that means the deal cannot go on.

Should Arsenal move in for Houssem Aouar without mentioning of Matteo Guendouzi, there are chances that they could have agreed on a deal. It is now clear that the only chances of the Gunners to sealing a deal for the star player are to meet his release clause of £45 million.

Matteo Guendouzi has been out of the Arsenal team and has not been in a competitive game since the resumption of football after the coronavirus pandemic.
