West London outfit Chelsea have confirmed the signature of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner even before the opening of the summer transfer window with Liverpool legend, Michael Owen claiming that the development is a gift from Liverpool.

According to Owen, Chelsea will be no way close to landing the star player if Liverpool had shown interest in him because the Anfield was a preferred destination for Timo Werner.

The Reds legend stated that an asking price of £45 million was given to Liverpool for by the German club but the Reds saw no need because of Divock Origi’s presence.

He noted that the moment Liverpool handed a new deal to Divock Origi, it means they were not ready to part ways with him any time soon.

However, he claimed that Timo Werner would have been a better choice for the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp because he would have provided a better competition in the attack than Divock Origi.

Timo Werner was a force to reckon with in the German Bundesliga, scoring 34 goals in 45 games as well as providing 13 assists in all. Chelsea will now hope to enjoy his service of the German international at the Stamford Bridge in the coming season.
