Arsenal could lose the services of Brazilian defender David Luiz after the recent revelation that the player signed for just a season. He was an £8m acquisition from London rivals Chelsea last summer.
David Luiz became surplus to requirements when Blues legend Frank Lampard was named the manager in 2019 and the centre back had to leave Stamford Bridge for a new adventure rather than sit on the sidelines at Chelsea. Various media outlets reported on Wednesday that the Brazilian international centre back signed a one-year contract plus the option of an additional year but the Gunners have not taken that ‘extra year’ option until now. The option will expire at the end of next month meaning that the player will become a free agent.
David Luiz is in the latter part of his football career at the age of 33 and this factor could be a major decider on the part of the Arsenal bosses especially with young defender William Saliba expected to return to the club for next season at the end of his loan at Saint Etienne. Arsenal signed Frenchman Saliba from Saint Etienne in a £25m deal before he was loaned back to the French Ligue 1 for the current campaign.
David Luiz is the most experienced player in the Arsenal squad though he didn’t have the best of starts to his career at the club. However, he has been able to recover from an uncertain start to become a key defender for new manager Mikel Arteta. Why Arteta and Arsenal still need him:
1. Experience – David Luiz has been a real force since Mikel Arteta became the Gunners boss and his wealth of experience would be useful for another season.
2. Consistency – He has been the only constant in the Arsenal backline since Arteta became manager in 2019.
3. Quality – Arsenal are blessed with quantity centre backs rather than quality. David Luiz can be a real handful for strikers on his good day.
Europa League: Arsenal predicted XI against SK Rapid Wien
After losing 1-0 to Man City at the weekend, the English Premier League outfit Arsenal will now face SK Rapid Wien in the Europa League in their first European journey this season.
After struggling in the attack against Man City, it is expected that the North London outfit will pull out a new system and Mikel Arteta might consider playing a fairly different team to be able to pull a win.
New Arsenal signing Thomas Partey did not start in the Premier League game against Man City with the Spanish boss claiming that he is not ready for games because he has not had enough training with the club and has not fully understood the system of play despite having all the qualities to do so.

It is, therefore, unknown if the Ghanaian international will be given his full debut in the Europa League game as that decision will be left alone to manager Mikel Arteta to make.
However, the predicted starting eleven could have Bernd Leno give way for Alex Runarsson, while the set-up at the attack could be changed as well.
See predicted XI: Alex Runarsson, Sead Kolanisanc, Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes, Cedric Soares, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny, Joe Willock, Riess Nelson, Smith-Rowe, Nketiah.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey, Willian, Bernd Leno, Alexandre Lacazette, and Nicolas Pepe could start from the bench.
Arsenal set for Wolverhampton battle over Bundesliga star
English Premier League outfits Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to battle for the signature of Bayern Munich star Angelo Stiller ahead of the coming transfer window.
The future of the 19-year-old is uncertain at the German Bundesliga outfit as he is considering his long-term future at the club with his current contract set to expire next summer window.
Angelo Stiller recently made his debut for the Bundesliga outfit in the DFB Pokal and there are chances that he has already started his countdown at the club if he eventually decides to leave.

It is understood that a manger Mikel Arteta has watched the versatile midfielder and he will be making a move for him later in the summer transfer window but that will only happen if he makes the decision to leave.
German Bundesliga trio Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, and Union Berlin are reported to be keen on the signature of the Bayern Munich star which leaves him with a lot of options.
However, Wolves are the major contenders for the signature of the 19-year-old as he is believed to prefer a move to the English Premier League than remain in Germany.
Angelo Stiller is one of the players tipped to serve as an alternative to Arsenal’s summer transfer target and Lyon star Houssem Aouar.
Alexandre Lacazette’s future could have been decided already
The exit of French striker Alexandre Lacazette might have been delayed but it could still happen in the nearest future if the latest development is anything to relate with.
The future of the former Lyon striker was up in the air during the summer transfer window as it was claimed that he would be leaving the club with Atletico Madrid and Juventus as his likely destination but that did not happen as manager Mikel Arteta decided to keep him for the season.

However, Alexandre Lacazette has not been a regular in the Arsenal team as he is mostly used to bench roles. The game against Man City has given the hint that he might not be needed in the Arsenal team with the Spanish boss preferring to use Brazilian international Willian in the centre-forward position knowing that he is a natural winger.
This has raised concerns over the future of Alexandre Lacazette and it is claimed that he might be nearing his exit from the club to have him secure a regular playing time elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the former Man City assistant manager has been accused of being disrespectful to Alexandre Lacazette and not having faith in his ability to lead the team’s attack.
Is another Mesut Ozil situation happening already?
It is feared that another Mesut Ozil situation might be happening again at the English Premier League club Arsenal with the recent controversies surrounding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
It is no longer news to everyone Mesut Ozil has been accused of falling to his comfort zone and not giving his best to the club after he was handed a whopping £350,000-weekly deal to make him the club highest-paid player.
For many months, the North London outfit have not enjoyed the service of their highest-paid player and he seems to be satisfied with it, going by his social media posts and his activities during training.

The same seems to be happening with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has not been at his best since he was handed a new and improved deal by the club.
Concerns were raised by Arsenal fans after the former Borussia Dortmund striker failed to help the team in the 1-0 defeat against Man City as it has been observed that he has not scored a goal for few games and has not been at his best.
In a witty response to the criticisms, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang took to his Instagram to post a picture of himself doing an exercise and captioned it “A lot of bla bla. At the end we speak as usual” and this has not gone well with fans.
Saliba: Why Mikel Arteta might be right at the end
English Premier League outfit Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been under attack for keeping William Saliba at the club when he is yet to be handed his debut despite being hyped as a quality player.
The young defender signed for the North London outfit in 2019 but he is yet to be handed his debut as he was loaned out for a season to his former French club.

Now that he has returned, his name is missing from the Europa League squad and the chances of playing in the Premier League are slim. Mikel Arteta had the opportunity of loaning him out during the summer transfer window but failed to do that and was blasted by William Saliba’s former manager.
However, the decision to keep William Saliba might have been justified with the injury of Rob Holding as his presence at the club now gives more options to the club as well as an opportunity for him to have his debut.
The reason for snubbing Willaim Saliba from the Europa League squad is unknown but the current happening and injury situation might have proven him right as he might reconsider his decision and have the player called back into the squad.
Arsenal have this to boast of despite Man City defeat
The majority of Arsenal fans have been left disappointed after seeing the team fall by a goal to Man City at the weekend as it hints that the situation has not changed.
The goal by Raheem Sterling was enough to condemn Arsenal for not having what it takes to win any of the big six teams since 2015.
However, goalkeeper Bernd Leno suggests that there are positives that must be celebrated from the game as he boasts that the North London outfit have been able to close the gap on Man City at the top.

- How fans reaction have shaped us, Liverpool
He confessed to being disappointed by the defeat, noting that the team felt down but he is proud of the good display in the game because the team competed against Man City which led to the slim win.
Bernd Leno affirmed that the last game against Man City at the Etihad ended in a 3-0 defeat against but that has been slimmed down with the big difference that was witnessed.
According to him, his team’s inability to get past Man City goalkeeper Edison was the only stumbling block in their game as they should have delivered a win or shared the spoil.
Arsene Wenger finally reveal the reasons why he left Arsenal
For about 22 years, legendary French manager Arsene Wenger was in charge at Arsenal before he shocked the fans to leave the Emirates Stadium in 2018.
The last few years of the Frenchman was characterized by an internal crisis at the club and that was motivated by the bad results from games and the inability to secure the top four qualification.
When he resigned, Arsene Wenger only told us that it was time for him to leave, not citing any reasons behind his decision.

Now he has decided to open up by stating that he was confused about the happenings at the club as he did not know who was in charge because of the disunity and uncertainty.
He, therefore, added that things look to be changing now with the club making efforts to invest, he said Arsenal are now making effort to create a unit which will be followed by making good technical decisions.
Arsene Wenger stated that the target going forward is to find stability and balance between defending and attacking in the team and that is what manager Mikel Arteta must do.
However, the former Arsenal boss hailed Mikel Arteta as he noted that the club has regained its values but it is yet to be known if the values will continue in the long run or not.
Mikel Arteta has already made one major mistake
Arsenal legend Tony Adams is of the opinion that manager Mikel Arteta has made a mistake in allowing former goalkeeper Emi Martinez to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
Emi Martinez left the North London outfit to join Aston Villa for a fee of £20 million after he was instrumental in the Gunners victory in the FA Cup as a result of Bernd Leno’s injury.
The best of Emi Martinez was just seen when he left the club and the Arsenal legend insists that he should have been kept at the club at all cost.

However, the North London outfit have already secured the service of Alex Runner as a replacement but he is yet to make a Premier League debut.
Howbeit, Emi Martinez insisted on leaving the club as he was no longer interested in being a second-choice goalkeeper. Mikel Arteta has never hidden the fact that Bernd Leno will always be called ahead of him especially for the big games as the Premier League and the Europa League.
