Manchester United have made a decision on top midfield transfer target Bruno Fernandes who is on the payroll of Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese top flight.

Bruno Fernandes is a long-term target for the Red Devils dating back to last summer when they tried to sign but failed to secure his transfer.

According to the report via the Daily Express, Manchester United want to sign Bruno Fernandes but they are not ready to pay the release clause in his Sporting Lisbon contract.

Manchester United will have to pay £59m to secure his signature and the Red Devils have decided against the payment of his release clause.

Bruno Fernandes scored 32 goals and also added 18 assists for Sporting Lisbon in 53 games in all competitions.

The 25-year-old broke the record for the most goals scored by a midfielder in a season which was previously held by current Chelsea manager Frank Lampard while he was still a Blues player.

His quality has led to the interest of other clubs apart from Manchester United.

Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur were both touted as a possible transfer destination for the Portuguese international last summer.

Manchester United have made the decision to not pursue a deal for Bruno Fernandes this month despite the fact that they are short in midfield because of the injuries to both Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.
