Premier League giants Chelsea are closing in on a move for highly rated RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner according to the report from the stables of the Daily Express which revealed that the German international is now a major transfer target for the club.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has little faith in both French World Cup winner Olivier Giroud and Belgian international Michy Batshuayi as the backup striker to Tammy Abraham and the new manager is keen to strengthen that striker position with a quality recipient like Timo Werner who is at the age of 23.
Timo Werner will be able to provide the much needed competition for Tammy Abraham as Chelsea try to close out fourth place on the Premier League table.
The petite German international player wad part of the team that 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and also has a release clause of just €30m in his RB Leipzig at the moment.
Timo Werner was previously labelled one of the most promising players on the European football stage and he has started to show that promise under highly rated manager Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig.
He has scored 18 goals in the German Bundesliga this season and its only Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski that has more league goals than him (19 goals).
