Liverpool have been boosted by the news that star defender Virgil Van Dijk has returned to training in time for the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup tournament final in Qatar.

The Reds face Brazilian Serie A club Flamengo on Saturday evening in the final of the tournament and Van Dijk is expected to return to the Liverpool starting XI for the game.

The Dutchman missed the semifinal win over Mexican club Monterrey earlier in the week because of illness.

Without Van Dijk, Liverpool made heavy work of their Mexican opponents as they needed a late goal to secure their place in the final.

Brazilian international Roberto Firmino scored in added time to give Liverpool a 2-1 win over Monterrey who had scored in the first half through Rogelio Funes Mori to cancel out the opening goal from Reds midfielder Naby Keita.

Guinean international Naby Keita is one of the form players in the Liverpool team at the moment after he scored three goals in the last four games for his club in all competitions.

Liverpool will face a Flamengo side that came from a goal down to beat 10-man Al Hilal FC of Saudi Arabia 3-1 in their semifinal clash.

Flamengo are in their maiden FIFA Club World Cup final, while Liverpool are making their second appearance.
