North London giants Arsenal are said to be interested in signing one of the best defenders in the Italian Serie A this season.
This is according to the publication from the stables of the Daily Mirror which revealed that the Gunners are keen to sign AS Roma center-back Chris Smalling who has been one of the standout defenders in the Italian top flight this term.
Chris Smalling has been able to turn his fortunes around in the Italian capital of Rome in this campaign following a couple of average seasons with Manchester United before his transfer in September.

The England international player joined AS Roma from Manchester United on loan until next summer.
England manager Gareth Southgate has left Chris Smalling out of his squad for the better part of the last two years and that could be about to change after he watches him in action alongside his assistant Steve Holland.
Gareth Southgate and Steve Holland were in attendance as AS Roma played out a goalless draw with hosts and league leaders Inter Milan during their league meeting on Friday night.
Chris Smalling played the entire duration of the game for AS Roma and was one of the best players on the pitch.
