Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has been ruled out of the upcoming Manchester Derby with Manchester United in the Premier League.

Premier League champions Manchester City play hosts to city rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium this weekend and star player Sergio Aguero will miss the game because of injury.

His non-availability for the Manchester Derby was confirmed by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola during his pre-match press conference on Monday as he prepares his team for the tough trip to Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday night.

Sergio Aguero suffered a muscular injury during the penultimate league game at home to Chelsea and was subsequently ruled out for some weeks.

Earlier reports had claimed that Sergio Aguero has an outside chance of returning from injury in time for the Manchester Derby meeting with Manchester United at home but manager Pep Guardiola has dispelled those reports by stating categorically that the Argentine national team player will miss the game.

Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players can’t afford any more mistakes when they travel to face the Clarets in the Premier League on Tuesday night after the 2-2 draw at Newcastle United on Saturday.

A win will take third-placed Manchester City above Leicester City and into second place on the table.

The incentive for Manchester City is to close the gap on Liverpool to eight points with victory.
