Manchester United star Nemanja Matic faces a bleak future at Old Trafford due to his lack of first-team opportunities under Solskjaer this season.

The Serbian international has featured in a handful of games this season as he is behind Fred and Scott McTominay in the pecking order.

It was even reported last week that the 31-year-old could be on his way out of the Theatre of Dreams in January due to Inter Milan’s growing interest in his services.

Calcio Mercato claimed that Antonio Conte is looking at the possibility of reuniting with the Serb at the San Siro Stadium in January.

However, the club’s CEO Beppe Marotta seemed to have debunked the rumors linking the club with a move for the former Chelsea player in January.

According to him, the winter transfer period isn’t the best time to complete any signing because great and highly-rated players won’t be available.

“The January window is poor, you don’t come across many great opportunities. I don’t know what the market can offer. No great players are available, ” he said.

This will come as a setback to Conte’s dream of snatching another star away from Old Trafford, having captured Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez prior to the start of the 2019-20 campaign.
