Won’t it be a bit shocking to see any manager reject United and Real Madrid’s coaching job? But that was what Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did some years ago after quitting his position as Borussia Dortmund manager in 2015.

According to Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler in one of his write-up, Klopp revealed to him that he wasn’t interested in United’s offer because the club lay many emphases on the business side of football rather than focusing on how to maintain their reputation as one of the most successful clubs in the world.

Fowler also revealed that the German tactician was equally unimpressed with Madrid’s urge to improve the commercial side of the game rather than improving their chances of winning many trophies.

Fowler writes: “I did an interview with him a couple of years ago and he told me he turned down a couple of Super-rich clubs after Dortmund – one of them was definitely Manchester United, the other probably Real Madrid – because he hated how they were focused solely on commercial influences.”

According to the former Anfield player, Klopp chose Liverpool because of their readiness to keep the club’s fame in terms of trophies and the ability to impress their fans.

“He said he liked Liverpool because they had a balance between the money needed to reach the top and the history and identity of the club and their fans,” Fowler revealed.

Klopp’s decision to join the Reds is obviously paying off, having helped the team qualify for two Champions League final on two occasions (winning once).
