Premier League leaders Liverpool could be thrown out of the Carabao Cup this season after they fielded an ineligible player in the last round.
Liverpool beat English League One side MK Dons 2-0 away from home in the third round of competition courtesy the goals from James Milner and Young defender Ki-Jana Hoever either side of the halftime interval.
The Reds featured 22-year-old Pedro Chirivella who’s said to be ineligible due to issues relating to the International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
If found guilty, the EFL could fine or ban Liverpool.
The Premier League leaders have already released a statement on the situation.
According to the Mersey side giants, they have opened an investigation into the matter and that their position on the matter would not be revealed until they have concluded their findings.
For now, their participation in the Carabao Cup fourth round is in serious doubt.
The fourth round draw pitted them with North London giants Arsenal.
Liverpool were scheduled to host the Gunners for the two teams to battle it out for the right to qualify for the next round.
On their part, Arsenal have no issues with the EFL.
They thrashed English Championship opposition Nottingham Forest 5-0 in their third round meeting last week.
